Local SEO for small businesses

Show up when someone in your town searches for what you do.

Local SEO means being found in the three places that matter for a service business: Google Maps, the Google Business Profile panel, and the regular results underneath. Not traffic for its own sake. Calls, bookings and orders.

What “SEO” actually means for a local business

For a cleaning company, a salon or a junk removal crew, SEO is not blog posts and backlinks. It is three things, in this order: a Google Business Profile that is complete and active, a website that says exactly what you do and where, and enough reviews that Google trusts you over the company down the road.

Most of what gets sold as “SEO packages” skips the first one entirely. I start there, because that is where the calls come from.

Where local calls actually come from, in order

  1. Google Maps and the profile panelCategory, hours, service list, photos, reviews. The thing people tap before they ever see your site.
  2. Search results under the mapYour service pages, written for what customers type: “hot tub removal near me,” not “our services.”
  3. Reviews and consistencySame name, address and phone everywhere. Reviews answered. This is what tips Google toward you.
What you get

What I actually do each month

01

Google Business Profile, done properly

Right categories, every service listed with a price note, photos of your real work, hours, booking link, and review responses. Refreshed monthly, not set once and forgotten.

02

Technical fixes on the site

Speed, crawl errors, broken links, mobile issues, schema. The things that quietly stop Google from ranking a page that deserves to rank.

03

Service and area pages that rank

One page per service you want more of, and area pages only for towns you can write something honest about. No forty-page copy-paste.

04

Content built for AI answers too

Pages structured so Google’s AI overview, ChatGPT and Perplexity can read and quote them. Direct answers up top, FAQ blocks, clean markup.

05

Citations and consistency

Your name, address and phone matched across the directories that matter. Boring, and one of the strongest local signals there is.

06

A report you can actually read

Calls, direction requests, profile views, rankings for the terms we chose. One page, plain English, every month. No 40-page PDF.

The process

How the first 90 days run

Week 1: audit and profile

Full look at your site, your profile and your top three competitors. The profile gets fixed the same week, because it is the fastest win.

Weeks 2 to 4: technical and pages

Speed and crawl fixes on the site. The first two service pages written and live, targeting terms you can realistically win.

Month 2: expand and cite

More service and area pages. Directory listings matched. Review process set up so you get one after every job.

Month 3: measure and adjust

What moved, what did not, and what we do next. If a term is not moving, we change the plan, not the report.

Ongoing

Profile kept active, new pages as you add services, monthly report. Month to month after the first three.

Honest timeline

Profile changes show within weeks. Rankings for service pages take three to six months, longer in competitive metros. Anyone promising faster is guessing.

FAQ

Questions owners ask about SEO

How long until I see results?

Google Business Profile changes usually show within two to four weeks. Rankings for new service pages typically take three to six months, longer in competitive metros. I tell you which of your target terms are realistic before you pay for anything.

Do I need a website for local SEO?

You need a profile first. But the profile links to your site, and a profile with no decent site behind it loses to a competitor who has both. If your site is the weak part, I will say so.

What is the 3 month minimum for?

Because nothing meaningful in SEO happens in one month, and I would rather not take your money for a month of work you cannot judge. After three months it is month to month and you can stop any time.

Do you guarantee page one?

No, and nobody honest does. What I guarantee is the work listed above, done every month, and a report that shows exactly what moved. If a term is not moving, we change the plan.

Can you do SEO for my area from outside the US?

Yes. Local SEO is done inside your Google Business Profile, your site and the directories, none of which require me to be in your town. What matters is knowing your market, which I research before writing a single page.

What about AI search, ChatGPT and Google’s AI answers?

Included. Pages are structured so answer engines can read and quote them: direct answers up top, FAQ blocks, clean schema. I will not promise you appear in AI answers, because nobody can, but I make it as easy as possible for them to find you.

When the calls come

Ranking brings the call. Something has to answer it.

The point of local SEO is a phone that rings more. The part nobody plans for is what happens when it rings while you are on a job. Voicemail, and the customer you just paid to reach calls the next result.

An assistant that answers in your name, books the job, and texts you the details closes that gap. Most SEO clients add it in month two. Full details on the phone answering page.

What happens when you cannot pick up

  1. It answers by the third ring, in your nameSays you are with a customer, asks what, where and when, and books it into your calendar.
  2. You get a text, they get a confirmationA one-line summary to your phone within seconds. If they hang up early, it texts them back.
  3. $497 setup, $149 a monthYour number stays. Live in three days. Cancel by email.
