STRAIGHT TALK

The sixty second test

Someone wants a dozen cupcakes for Saturday. They found you, they are on a phone, and they have about a minute of patience before they call the other bakery.

Most bakery websites fail that test. The menu is a PDF. The order form asks for eleven things. Custom cakes say “call us.” Pickup times are not on the site anywhere. The customer gives up, and the bakery never knows the order existed.

Everything I build is around that minute. If it does not help someone place an order or find you, it is decoration and I will tell you to cut it.

Where the order dies, in order

  1. The menu is a PDFPinch, zoom, give up. Google cannot read it either.
  2. Custom cakes say “call us”Your highest-margin work turned into a voicemail.
  3. No pickup times anywhereThey do not know if Saturday works, so they do not order.
  4. Checkout asks for eleven thingsFull address on a pickup order. Account required. Gone.
WHAT YOU GET

What a bakery site actually needs

01

Ordering that is genuinely fast

Products with photos and prices, add to cart that works with a thumb, and a checkout that asks for name, phone, pickup time and payment. That is it. Built on WooCommerce, so you own it and pay no commission per cupcake.

02

Pickup and delivery slots

Customers choose a day and a time window. You set the capacity, so Saturday morning does not get forty orders you cannot fill. Cutoff times so nobody orders a wedding cake for tomorrow. Blackout dates for when you are closed.

03

Custom cake orders done properly

A form that asks the right questions: occasion, servings, flavors from your list, dietary needs, inspiration photo, date needed. Then a deposit to hold the date. A complete paid request instead of a voicemail.

04

A menu that is not a PDF

Google cannot read your PDF. Neither can someone on a phone without pinching. Your menu as real text with photos, organized how you sell it. That is what lets you rank for “sourdough your town” instead of only your name.

05

Your own photos

Nobody has ever ordered a cake from a stock photo. Your bread, your cakes, your counter, your people. Phone photos in good light are fine. They need to be yours.

06

Speed, because people order on phones

On mobile data, in a parking lot, deciding between you and the place across town. If your site takes four seconds to show anything, a real share of those orders go across town.

THE PROBLEM

Where bakeries actually lose orders

Bakery sites fail in a specific place: the last step. The product pages are fine. The cart works. Then checkout asks for a full address on a pickup order, or wants an account created, or the pickup time is a text box that says “Saturday?” and the bakery has to call back. The customer is gone before the call happens.

The fix is not a prettier site. It is removing every step between “I want that” and “paid, see you Saturday.”

And the honest word about Google

For most bakeries, the Google Business Profile brings in more first-time customers than the website. People search “bakery near me,” look at the map and the photos, and go. The site’s job is two things: turn the people who found you on Maps into orders instead of phone calls, and rank for the specific things the profile never will, like “custom birthday cakes your town.” If your profile is empty and your site is fine, I will tell you to fix the profile first.

FAQ

Questions bakery owners ask

How much does a bakery website with online ordering cost?

Builds start at $1,500 and depend on menu size and how complex your ordering needs are. Custom cake forms with deposits start at $2,500. Compare that against ordering platforms that take a commission on every order forever, and a site you own usually pays for itself within the first year.

Can customers pick a pickup time?

Yes, and this is the feature that matters most. They choose a day and a time window, you set how many orders each window can take, and cutoff times stop last-minute orders you cannot fill.

Can I take deposits for custom cakes?

Yes. The custom cake form collects the details, and a deposit payment holds the date. You get a complete request with a paid deposit instead of a voicemail.

Do I need a separate ordering app like Square or Toast?

Not for online ordering. WooCommerce handles it and you own it, with no per-order commission. If you already use a point of sale in the shop, we can look at whether syncing makes sense. Often keeping them separate is simpler.

Will my bakery show up on Google?

For your name and “bakery near me,” that is mostly your Google Business Profile, which I set up or fix. For “custom cakes your town,” that is the website, and it typically takes a few months to build up. I will tell you which terms are realistic before you spend anything.

Can you fix my existing site instead of rebuilding?

Usually, and I will say so if that is the better option. If your products and photos are fine and the problem is checkout friction or speed, the Fix Sprint is the right call and it is a third of the price.

Do I own the site?

Completely. Site, hosting and domain stay in your name. I hand everything over and show you how to run it.
